TOPIC: MIGRATION
 The world we are living in is becoming increasingly nationalistic and there is an imperative to consider the phenomenon of migration under a different light.  More people are displaced in the world than ever before as a consequence of persecution, war and violence.  We need to revisit our misconceptions and look at the human stories behind the reactionary political sound bites.
Far from being a problem, migrations have traditionally been associated with prosperity and cultural enlightenment. This panel discussion will look at the different aspects of migration and how art can play a role in the conversation and assist in shaping societies’ perceptions of the ‘other’.
 The Gallery of African Art (GAFRA) is pleased to have as panelists:
Professor Claire Griffiths:                                                                                                                                  University Chair in Area Studies and Professor of Francophone Studies, University of Chester.
Paul Waters:                                                                                                                                                          Producer BBC Radio 4, 5 Live & World Service. Radio Presenter at Radio Wycombe sound FM, consultant and trainer.  
Nadene Ghouri:                                                                                                                                                            An award winning journalist, author and screenwriter specialising in human rights and global development issues.
Patrick Altes:                                                                                                                                                                 Algerian mixed media practioner whose art reflects both his roots in colonial and post-colonial Algeria.
