GRADnet Workshop on topological states in solid-state devices as a resource for quantum computing Who: Principally 1st and 2nd year physics postgraduate researchers working in quantum computing. What: A 2-day residential workshop which is designed to give an introduction to quantum computing devices with topological states. When: Thursday, 4 to Friday, 5 May 2023 Where: Oak Suite 1 &amp; 2, University of Surrey, Guildford, GU2 7XH. Overnight accommodation at the Holiday Inn, Guildford. Numbers: Circa 30 delegates For research students with a background in this field, this workshop will introduce the student to superconducting circuits with hybrid Josephson junctions which are based on semiconductors and exhibit a number of important physical phenomena such a Coulomb interaction, spin-orbit interaction, and topological excitations. Through lectures and tutorials, postgraduate researchers will be given an introduction to the rich physics of the field and the modern theoretical and experimental approaches that are being pursued towards achieving high performance quantum computing devices.Attendees will focus on goals being pursued internationally to demonstrate characterisation and understanding of such devices, with the longer term aims of high coherence and detection of topological excitations. These are required for the vision of realising fault-tolerance and improving noisy intermediate-scale quantum computing (NISQ). There will be time dedicated to informal discussions, a poster session and activities to highlight individual research.This event is only for SEPnet postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers. This event is free (SEPnet pays for your accommodation, meals and course fees) for SEPnet postgraduate researchers and you should be able to claim for your travel expenses either from your department or RTSG.
