Tote Bag
Create your own unique tote bag and be the envy of everyone at the supermarket! Suitable for beginners upwards.
Please note - the workshop starts at 10 a.m. - we would be grateful if you did not arrive before 9.45 a.m.
Do your bit for the planet with a stylish fabric tote bag. There will also be tuition on getting to know your sewing machine and building your confidence with simple sewing. You will learn to cut out, pin and sew a lined bag, insert a ‘flat bottom’, attach an internal pocket and make fabric handles.
What we will provide:
Calico lining fabric
Tea/Coffee and biscuits!
What you will need to bring:
We would prefer you to bring your own sewing machine but if that is not possible we do have some you can borrow.
Fabric for your bag — think creatively — you could use preloved clothing, bedding etc. As long as it is fairly soft cotton, polycotton or lightweight denim. You could use curtain / cushion fabric as long as it is not too thick or heavy. YOU WILL NEED TWO PIECES AT LEAST 55 BY 55 CMS FOR THE BAG PLUS ONE CONTRASTING PIECE AT LEAST 55 BY 55 CMS FOR THE TOP AND HANDLES. (Stretchy fabrics are not suitable)
Alternatively there is plenty of suitable fabric available to buy at The Blue House, for a cost of £12 max. (depending on the fabric)
