Event description

Description

"A fantastic evening" - Mostly Harmless, official magazine of ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha

Towel Day is an annual celebration as a tribute to the late author Douglas Adams (1952-2001). On May 25th each year, fans carry a towel in Douglas's honour.

Since 2017 Stand Up for Towel day has provided a place to gather after a long day of towel carrying for stand up comedy, slam poetry, sketches, improv and more in homage to H2G2 and in aid of Save the Rhino.

This year we've added a walk and some talks to the day's events in Douglas's birth place, Cambridge, UK.

12.30pm Douglas Adams Cambridge walk with David Haddock

This event is FREE and unticketed. Just turn up to join in!

We'll wait for the 11:42 from King's Cross that is due in at 12:30, unless the train is really late.

The walk starts at the railway station. We gather outside between the Marks & Spencer's and The Old Ticket Office pub.

See where Douglas Adams was born, where he went to University, where the "biscuit incident" took place, where the TARDIS landed in Shada, and more!

We walk about three miles, but stop at various places to point at Douglasy things over a couple of hours.

4pm Talks at the Blue Moon, Cambridge

  • An interview with Martin Smith and Will Adams, the two remaining members of Douglas's sketch troupe, Adams-Smith-Adams.

  • We chat to David Learner, who played Marvin on stage and screen.

Talks will finish by 6pm to leave time for food before...

8pm Stand Up for Towel Day 2019!

  • Investigative journalism from Steve Cross

  • The second annual Vogon poetry anti-slam, hosted by our laureate, Cerys Bradley.

  • Towel fighting with Paul Duncan McGarrity.

  • One Adams and the Smith of Adams-Smith-Adams perform some of their early sketches.

  • MORE hoopy acts to be announced
