About this event

A unique Town to River, River to Town walk alongside the Gala Water to the River Tweed and back again.

This walk is part of Hike & Bike Hub's Galashiels Walking festival (26th - 28th April)

The Black Path, which takes you from Galashiels Town centre alongside the Gala Water to where it flows into the River Tweed, has been the focus of a series of community workshops and walks organised by Connecting Threads during March and April.

On Saturday 27th April walkers will experience 3 especially created pop-up audio-visual art installations/exhibitions along the route.

Experience artworks made by artist Georgie Fay and St Peters primary school pupils, Wilkie Gardens residents and the wider community, inspired by "Above and Below the Water" discoveries found during workshops with Ben McCalum from Tweed Foundation and Jenny Holmes from Tweed Forum and an artist led community walk.

Listen to soundscapes at each of the 3 sites recorded along the Black Path with Sound Artist Balandino Di Donato, captured during community walks in March and April.

Beginning at Little Art Hub in Galashiels town centre, we will leisurely walk along the Black path from Town to River to the confluence with the Tweed at Galafoot where there will be the opportunity to have a hot drink , admire the river Tweed, chat and soak up the experience of seeing the Black Path in a totally new way!

‘Town to River, River to Town’ is a new partnership between Connecting Threads and Hike and Bike hub's Galashiels Walking Festival a collaboration that embeds contemporary art into organised group walks through a programme of participatory events. This is the first time that the two organisations have worked together and the first time that the walking festival has featured artists as part of its programme.

We're looking forward to seeing you there!

Artworks will be on display between 1:00 pm - 5:00pm.

This Connecting Threads guided walk starts 1pm from the Little Art Hub. MEET at 12:30pm

There will be an Exhibition of artworks inspired by this project at the Little Art Hub.

Please get in touch if you have any barriers to attending.
