TRAINING WORKSHOP: Making an EHCP Application

DS Achieve is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation formed by parents of children with Down Syndrome.  We empower the families of children and young people with Down Syndrome to enable them fulfil their potential, whatever that may be - and it will be different for every child or young person.Potential may be centred on education, social inclusion, sporting achievement, personal happiness, good health and wellbeing, or other personal family goals.  All families' goals are different and our aim is to support those goals in whatever way we can, while having fun and making new friends along the way!

We provide educational and training programmes for families, children and professionals on a wide range of subjects related to Down Syndrome.

This workshop is the first of a series of EHCP training events being delivered for DS Achieve by Tracey Allen, Sole Principal at Allen and Co Solicitors. Tracey has a wealth of experience since qualifying as a solicitor in 2002 and set up Allen and Co Solicitors in 2011. She specialises in education law with expertise in SEND and the EHCP process. Tracey advises parents from various points in their child’s life; from before they have requested or even heard of a statutory assessment, right up to post 16 and further education phase transfers of existing plans. She helps parents prepare for their requests for assessment or reassessment, annual reviews and appeals to the First-tier Tribunal where necessary.This workshop is aimed at parent carers at the stage of making an EHCP application for the first time. The training session will cover:<ul><li>The request for statutory assessment by the LA; what is this and why do it.</li><li>What is an EHCP</li><li>Understanding jargon</li><li>The process</li><li>Starting to get to grips with the SEND Code of Practice and the relevant legislation</li><li>Gathering evidence to support reasons for requesting an assessment</li><li>Drafting the request and submitting it</li><li>Rights of appeal</li><li>Q﻿&A</li></ul>Delegates are encouraged to submit any specific questions or particular difficulties at the time of booking, in order that the session can be planned to meet the specific needs of those attending.This workshop will take place at: Academy Room, Hertfordshire Sports Village, de Havilland Campus, Hatfield Business Park, Hatfield AL10 9EUPlease book your place via Eventbrite and joining instructions will be sent to you nearer the time. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the training start time to register. (NB.
