Overview
Trans, Camera, Action: Transgender and Non-Binary Support Through Oppositional Filmmaking Practice
Hybrid screening and live Q&A with the director
The Queer Decolonial Network, an independent group under the Queer Media, Culture and Politics module at the School of Computing and Digital Media, London Metropolitan University, invites colleagues, students, and the public to this hybrid screening and live Q&A of Trans, Camera, Action: Transgender and Non-Binary Support Through Oppositional Filmmaking Practice.
“Trans, Camera, Action” (50 min) comprises a portfolio of six short films, created through digital and analogue filmmaking practice as research methods in conjunction with trans studies theory. This combination allows for a meaningful exploration of the construction and impact of trans and non-binary media representations, as seen through several interviews with trans and non-binary people, mostly based in the UK.
Dr Sammy Holden is a media-by-practice graduate of Edge Hill University. They currently work as a filmmaker, film programmer, artist and educator, as well as an Impact Producer with Reclaim The Frame for the North West. Reclaim The Frame is a charity that supports filmmakers and audiences of marginalised and minoritised identities. At the start of 2025, they became a co-lead with the Trans+ Virtual Centre of Excellence. The TVCE is an interdisciplinary network and community of trans+ people and allies in academia.
After the film, a short Q&A will be conducted by Dr Helton Levy, Senior Lecturer in Digital and Visual Media at London Met.
The event is also supported by the Trans+ Virtual Centre of Excellence.
This is a hybrid event taking place in BR4-09, Holloway campus, and on MS Teams.
