<h3>Demystifying regulation and commercialisation mini-series:</h3>This event is part of the <a href="https://www.pankhurst.manchester.ac.uk/2021/06/02/demystifying-regulations-and-commercialisation-mini-series/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Demystifying regulation and commercialisation mini-series</a>, hosted through the Christabel Pankhurst Institute for Health Technology Research and Innovation. These events, taking place in June and July 2021, are organised by Advanced Materials in Medicine (AMM), Translation Manchester, Digital Futures, the University of Manchester Innovation Factory, and the Institute of Data Science and AI.Summary of purpose:Significant AI health technology activity is taking place in the Greater Manchester (GM) region across academic institutions, regional government, SMEs and larger organisations. Examples include the development of the Greater Manchester Care Records (GMCR), which integrates primary, secondary and social care data from 2.8M individuals and the recent establishment of the Christabel Pankhurst Institute for Health Technology Research and Innovation (Pankhurst), a cross-sector multi-partner translational enabler; and the European Regional Development Funded Greater Manchester Research and Innovation Health Accelerator to support regional SMEs. Due to these developments, there is increasing awareness of the emerging evidence requirements to demonstrate the utility of AI-based health technology but less detailed understanding of the specifics of this complex and evolving environment.The goal of this workshop is to provide an overview of some aspects of current thinking in this area with a range of key stakeholders. There will also be a panel discussion.Objectives:1.	To understand the evidence requirements to demonstrate the utility of AI-based healthcare technologies.2.	To provide information on the emerging guidelines on the evaluation of AI-based healthcare technologies.3.	To provide insight into emerging thinking on AI medical device regulation.4.	To understand the challenges of integrating AI-based healthcare technology into routine use.Audience:This event welcomes researchers in the areas of digital health and AI, AI Developers, Health Data Informaticians, Health Data Scientists, Clinically-qualified researchers/practitioners, SMEs, Regional development leads and non -traditional audiences who might be exploring entering this sector.Participants are welcome from across GM academic, industry, NHS and government-linked organisations.Confirmed speakers:1)	Professor Alastair Denniston and Dr Xiao Liu, University Hospitals Birmingham (20 min talk on AI Clinical Trials: CONSORT-/SPIRIT-AI2)	Johan Ordish (MHRA) (20 min talk on AI Regulation)3)	Dr Mireia Crispin Ortuzar (Cambridge) (20 min talk on Emerging Evidence)4) Dr Paul Bromiley (NHS AI in Health and Care Award Panel Chair) Funding opportunity: Access to Expertise award (Translation Manchester)The timely Access to Expertise award from Translation Manchester enables researchers to access appropriate expertise to help unblock specific bottlenecks associated with translational research. Researchers can apply for up to £25,000 to access technical expertise such as (but not limited to): bioinformatics, biostatistics, physicians and nurses time, software, app design or programming expertise and regulatory advice.
