Overview

Free, in-person half day session for all staff and volunteers working in Inverclyde

*Please note: If you know that you intend to go on to attend a level 2 session, there is no requirement to first attend a level 1 session, as most of this content will be covered at level 2. However, you are still welcome to attend both, if you are unsure of which level you may need*

This training is part of the National Trauma Transformation Programme (NTTP). More information about the NTTP can be found here. If you are unsure which level of training best fits for you and your role, you might find this Practice Type Checker a helpful guide.

Being "trauma informed" means being able to recognise when someone may be affected by trauma, collaboratively adjusting how we work to take this into account and responding in a way that supports recovery, does no harm and recognises and supports people's resilience.

To support Inverclyde's ambition to become a trauma informed and responsive local authority, a series of level 1 training sessions are available to anyone working or volunteering in Inverclyde. This half-day session aims to provide the baseline knowledge and skills required for everyone in the Scottish workforce and is aligned to the National Trauma Transformation Programme.

The session will cover:

  • Recognising the prevalence of trauma in society
  • Understanding common responses to traumatic experiences
  • Realising the impact that trauma can have on people we support
  • Being aware of how we can respond to people affected by trauma
  • The importance of support and self care

Please note: We know that traumatic experiences are common. During this event, traumatic experiences will not be talked about in detail, and you will not be asked to share any personal experiences of trauma. However, please do consider your own wellbeing during and after the session.
