Trial Workshop - Sashiko-Style Stitching
Learn to support patches on denim with stitching inspired by Japanese Sashiko. Try out basic decorative patterns and make your mends unique!
NOTE: This is a free trial run of a workshop that I'll later be offering as a paid session, to double check I've got the timing and materials I need. There may be some hiccoughs: incomplete instruction documents, timing issues, etc. I appreciate you bearing with the process!
Learn sashiko-style stitching to help reinforce patching on denim. You'll learn basic sashiko-inspired designs to get you started on your journey with this decorative visible mending technique.
I'll walk you through every step of the process:
- Selecting fabric for patches
- Best temporary attachment methods
- Setting up your grid (I'll have stencils for speed, and rulers if you prefer)
- Creating the stitches - including some techniques for the neatest outcome
- Finishing off ends
I'll provide all the tools and materials you'll need for the session, and you'll end up with a sample of sashiko-style stitching you could turn into a coaster (I'll have a handout for you to do this outside of the session), use as a patch, or just as decoration.
