Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

The goal of this hands-on training workshop is to introduce TSL researchers into three basic, yet powerful, computing concepts and tools that allow task automation (bash), scripting (python), and document management (git). The acquired skills, when applied, allow to optimise time spent on routine lab/office tasks and open up ways of processing data, which in turn might lead to more time for research.

Participants will be encouraged to help each other and to apply what they have learned to their own issues in the lab / office.

Audience:
graduate students, postdocs, and other active researchers.

Requirements:
openness towards, and willingness to learn, novel concepts
Participants should bring their own laptops, so they can acquire (and later directly apply) skills in their familiar working environment. A list of software to install (or get installed) prior to the course, will be circulated.

Preliminary schedule:
Thursday, 3rd December: 9.30 - 17.30 bash & python
Friday, 4th December: 9.30 - 17.30 git
