Each semester, the University organises free open lectures on a wide variety of topics and aimed at a general audience.We distribute information on upcoming lectures via a weekly e-newsletter. Our web pages are updated frequently.The majority of lectures are held on the University campus. There is a regular bus service and the campus is easily accessible by bicycle. University of York Open Lectures

Twelfth Night is a play about gender, about doubling, about the expressions and suppressions of love and about the imperative to survive. Come along to this free talk and explore some of its textual detail, and its history in print and performance with Professor Helen Smith to enhance your enjoyment of the production at <A HREF="http://www.shakespearesrosetheatre.com/york/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre</A>.
Professor Helen Smith is Professor of English and Head of the <A HREF="https://www.york.ac.uk/english/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Department of English</A> at the University of York. She publishes and speaks widely on women’s writing and on book history in the early modern period and she founded the <A HREF="https://www.york.ac.uk/english/news-events/news/introducing-thin-ice-press/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Thin Ice Press</A> at the University.
