At the launch of our new performance space, St John’s Waterloo is pleased to partner with the Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition to showcase the talents of three exceptional young musicians and support them as they develop their professional careers.Tabea Streticher, Piano Winner of the 2022 CompetitionTabea will present an impressive programme of piano classics: <ul><li>Beethoven – Piano Sonata no. 17 in D minor, Op. 31 ‘The Tempest’</li><li>Bartok – Two Romanian Dances, Op. 8a</li><li>Bartok – Piano Sonata, Sz. 80</li><li>Liszt – Fantasy and Figure on the Theme B-A-C-H, S.529</li></ul>

Tabea Streicher was born in Berlin in 2004 and began playing the piano at the age of four. Between 2011 and 2015 she studied first with Prof. Galina Iwanzowa at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and then with Stefan Lietz at the Berlin University of the Arts as a student of the Julius Stern Institute. In 2019, she studied with Prof. Christian Petersen and since April 2021 she studies with Prof. Markus Groh and attends the C.Ph.E.Bach Musikgymnasium. She has received numerous first prizes at international competitions in Germany and Hungary such as the piano competition “Clavicologne” 2014 and the VII. Chopin Competition 2016 in Budapest. Due to her success at the national level in 2017 with the first prize in the solo rating, she received a scholarship from the Carl Bechstein Foundation, for which she plays concerts regularly. Tabea is a laureate of the Steinway Competition 2010, the C. Bechstein Piano Competition 2014 for four-hands (with her brother Daniel Streicher) and the international Grotrian Steinweg Competition solo in Braunschweig 2013 and 2015. Tabea achieved another success in 2018 in Zwickau as the winner of the Small Schumann Competition with the highest number of points in the entire competition.Tabea also plays chamber music, playing with the international Masterclass Musica mundi in Belgium, the Saline Royale Academy in France as well as the Talent Music Summer Courses and Festival and the Music Festival Perugia in Italy. She has also performed with various Festival orchestras in Italy, with the orchestra of the C.Ph.E. Bach Musikgymnasium and the orchestra of the Free University Berlin. She is a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, the International Music Academy and the “Yehudi Menuhin-Live Music Now” foundation and has taken part in several international masterclasses. In October 2021, she received the Second Prize at the International Carl Maria von Weber Competition in Dresden and in May 2022 she won the First Piano Prize at the Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition. In July 2022 she was awarded the First Prize and Grand Prix of the International Competition for Young Pianists in Tbilisi (Georgia).

Doors open at 6:30pm, concert starts at 7pm.Getting to St John’s Waterloo.St John’s Waterloo is accessible by bus, tube or train; the nearest station is Waterloo Station.Parking is available in Exton Street on pay bays, Monday to Friday from 8.30am till 6.30pm &amp; Saturday 8.30am till 1.30pm at £5.40 per hour. Payment must be made by phone or app, details can be found on signs along Exton Street. After 6.30pm (1pm on Saturday) parking is free within the bays and on single yellow lines. There are no disabled bays along Exton Street.Parking is also available in car parks in York Road and Cornwall Road, details for both can be found online.

The Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition is a prestigious music competition which draws competitors from round the world. The Competition started in 1979 and is hosted every two years by the Mayfeld Festival in partnership with Mayfield School. Open to competitors between the ages of 16 and 27, the Competition supports young classical musicians who are embarking on their professional careers. These three recitals provide an exciting opportunity to hear this year’s first prize winners, selected by a distinguished panel of judges, comprising John Wallace CBE, Tasmin Little OBE, Guy Johnston, Dmitri Alexeev, Sam Haywood and Melinda Maxwell. The Competition has played an important role in the careers of many internationally celebrated musicians. Past winners include: piano virtuoso Paul Lewis; great Spanish clarinettist Joan Enric Lluna; Russian pianist Yuri Didenko, and flautist Michael Cox, currently principal flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Join us at these recitals to hear potential future stars of classical music!Tickets for the recitals cost £10. Concessions: £5 for Friends of the Competition; £0 for Patrons of the Competition, students and under 25s.A drinks reception will follow the final concert at 8pm on 26 October. There is no charge for this but donations are welcome to support the Competition’s future work in showcasing the talent of exceptional young musicians.
