About this event

  • Event lasts 10 days 3 hours

Our Two Week Intensive Acting Workshop runs each month and is designed to introduce students to the basic principles and activities involved in an Actor Training. It is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those students wishing to build upon previous performance experience.

The workshop runs from Monday to Thursday evening or Tuesday to Friday evening, from 7pm - 10pm for 2 consecutive weeks and incorporates 16 x 1.5 hour classes in Voice, Movement, Acting Technique, Improvising & Devising and Working with Text. The workshop costs £200 in total.

We will give you a detailed timetable prior to the start of the course.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 18 years old. We will accept applications from students 16-18 with written parental approval. Previous drama experience is not necessary and there is no upper age limit.

Applications from speakers of English as a second language are welcome but please note that all of ACT's courses are taught in English and are practical and active. We recommend an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall band of 6.0 or if below this extensive previous drama or theatre experience.

Feedback and Further Training

Upon completion of the Workshop, each tutor submits a written evaluation of every student's potential in their discipline and students may then attend an individual feedback session and interview with the Principal. .

Candidates for places on the Diploma and Foundation courses are usually required to complete the Workshop in order that we can determine their suitability for further training.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be the oldest or youngest?

Probably not. There is usually a broad range of ages and backgrounds on the workshop. We have no upper age limit. Participants must be 18 years or older or over 16 with parental/guardian permission.

Do I need previous acting experience?

No, the workshop is designed as an introduction to Actor Training for those who have no experience and as a refresher to those that have some experience.

Do I have to attend the first session?

Yes, all participants must attend the first session as this is a very important part of the workshop and introduces everyone to each other as well as the work and the spaces.

Will I have to perform something on the first night?

No, the opening session is a very gentle introduction to the work we do and a chance for everyone on the workshop to get to know each other and feel comfortable.

What happens if I can’t attend the workshop I booked?

If you are ill, or cannot attend the workshop for any reason, then you can transfer to another workshop. However, you can only do this once without losing your payment. Notice that you cannot attend must be given at least 24 hrs prior to the start of the workshop.

Will there be lots of scripts to read or learn – I am dyslexic/ working in a second language?

There are some sessions on working with scripts, but there is plenty of time to go over these and you will get support from the tutors. We designed the workshop so that all the work takes place on the night, so there is no ‘homework’ or ‘lines to be learnt’.

Will I have to sing?

Not unless you really want to! There are no singing classes on the workshop.

Is movement a dance class?

No, Movement is about how you use your physicality as an actor – so yes you will be moving about, but it is not a dance class.
