A free monthly space for writers to share their poems, flash fiction, monologues, short story or novel extracts, hosted by the Tees Women Poets in association with Stockton Libraries. Our special guest in November is 'Spacegirl'.Unofficial spokesperson and poster-girl for London Rickshaws in 1990s, feminist icon in Japan. Re-branded and reborn as 'Spacegirl', poet, rapper, author, philosopher and humourist - notable for working out the actual meaning of life and explaining it (with musical accompaniment) in terms that a 5-year-old can understand. Sian went on to found Spacegirl's Poetry Salon and Cafe, inclusive Spoken Word performance events, embedded in dance clubs (including the legendary Warp Experience) and festivals (notably Small World) and hosted by Spacegirl herself. These much-loved events played an important role in raising the profile of the spoken word genre and provided a fertile, supportive live environment, where Spacegirl's encouragement and guidance was instrumental in hothousing a fresh generation of dynamic and diverse UK poets and spoken word artistes, launching the literary careers of many of the UK's best-known and well-loved talents. Our open mic is open to everyone from everywhere, with a particular welcome for writers who are women and/or from Teesside. We do not permit hateful or offensive speech, and reserve the right to refuse entry or remove anyone behaving inappropriately. We ask all readers and performers to send us the text of their work in advance, so we can screen share it for our deaf audience members.To book an open mic slot, please contact twpopenmic@gmail.comEvery third Tuesday of the monthThis event is hosted on Zoom.
