Learn how to create instructional experiences using the UDL principles as part of a structured, facilitated process called CUTLAS.

In this design workshop, attendees will work together to create an instructional experience using a learning design approach known as CUTLAS. CUTLAS is a team-based approach to learning design that supports the construction of higher education learning experiences according to the UDL principles. CUTLAS stands for Creating Universal Teaching Learning &amp; Assessment Strategies. Essentially, the CUTLAS process supports teachers with the intentional design of learning experiences underpinned by the UDL principles and containing the key design elements required to support learning among diverse groups of learners. CUTLAS embeds UDL into the learning design process, ensuring that the principles of, Engagement, Representation and Action &amp; Expression, are given extensive consideration at the point at which instructional experiences are designed, and as such become staple pillars of the design process, rather than bolt-on “tips and tricks” as they unfortunately can be if added after an existing design has been created. In team-based fashion, attendees will create an instructional experience which adheres to the principles of backwards design and contains the critical elements of intentional learning design – Outcomes, Assessments, Methods and Materials. Due to its team-based nature, the workshop is being offered to an initial 20 participants only. Participants will be divided into design teams, with each team designing and creating a learning experience for a group of diverse learners using UDL principles.
