So, who is Pete Moore and how did he get started with pain self management?Pete Moore BiographyPete’s story is very typical of that of a pain patient. He was, like many pain patients looking for that magic bullet to take away his pain. Managing pain was like playing a game of snakes and ladders – a game of luck.  Most days melted into the next and he became a very poor pain self-manager. He did not exercise or generally look after his body and when something went wrong with it, he expected the doctor to fix him.My Turning Point!In July 1996 Pete attended theINPUT Pain Management Programme( PMP) London. It was described to him as a programme that could help me to increase his confidence and mobility and provide him with life-long skills to self-manage his pain.Pain Toolkitwww.paintoolkit.orgPete authored the Pain Toolkit a simple patient booklet, which was supported by the Department of Health and now used extensively in the UK and overseas. 950,000 copies are in circulation in the UK. Ukraine...What we CAN-DO Pete from Pain Toolkit has been moved by the awful events in the Ukraine. He has authored 360 research articles and 6 books. He has given 40 keynote lectures in 30 countries. His contributions both the how we understand and treat pain, and to community engagement and outreach, have met with awards from government or professional societies in 14 countries. In 2020, he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia - the country’s second highest civilian honour - for distinguished service to humanity at large in the fields of pain and its management, science communication, public education and physiotherapy. Assoc Professor David Butler, B.Phty, M.App.Sc, EdD (Australia)"My last patient – a pain in the arse"David is a physiotherapist, an educationalist, researcher and clinician, now shifting into peaceful retirement. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of South Australia and honoured member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.Among many publications, his recent texts, co-authored with Lorimer Moseley, include Explain Pain (2003, 2013), The Graded Motor Imagery Handbook (2012), The Explain Pain Handbook: Protectometer (2015), “Explain Pain Supercharged” (2017) and Epiphaknee: A modern approach to knee osteoarthritis. (2022). He is best known as an educationalist and his current focus is around adult conceptual change, diagnostic and therapeutic metaphors and pain story telling. David is a British trained physiotherapist currently living and working in the USA. He has presented at numerous MSK conferences in both the USA &amp; internationally. He specializes in treating pain related musculoskeletal issues, patient empowerment and self treatment. He has extensive experience in treating people with pain conditions of the spine, shoulder, hip, knee, and post surgical pain related issues.David is currently working as a consultant through his own company MT3 . During the COVID pandemic he has been teaching &amp; presenting online webinars. Her Break Through Pain Programme is a tailored, collaborative and action-orientated approach that utilises the QCH framework to help each unique individual experiencing persistent pain, start living a better quality of life, more comfortably doing more of the things that give them joy.Keith Meldrum (Canada)"Supported Self-Management: What is it and Why is it Important."Keith has lived with persistent neuropathic pain for over 35 years following a near-fatal car accident. Following numerous surgeries and many ineffective pain management interventions, he received a spinal cord stimulator in 2005. After years of healthcare system dismissiveness and stigmatization, Keith began to focus on pain advocacy. Over the last ten years, his advocacy work involved being a founding member of the International Association for the Study of Pain’s Global Alliance of Partners for Pain Advocacy, past Vice-Chair for Pain BC, international pain education conference presenter, university guest lecturer, and is an active and published researcher. Keith maintains a Facebook blog, A Path Forward, where he writes about his experiences. When not focusing on his advocacy efforts, Keith is a civil engineer technologist and vice president of a heavy civil construction company in Kelowna, BC. He is married to Barb, has a stepson, and an Australian Labradoodle named Parker
