TheUKRI Cloud Working GroupandThe Cloud for Research Special Interest Groupexist to help researchers and technical specialists using cloud computing technologies and services to share knowledge and expertise. The Working Group and The Cloud-SIG is supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

UKRI Cloud Working Group

The UKRI Cloud Working Group is holding its annual cloud workshop on 12th February at the Francis Crick Institute in central London.  As with previous events, there will be a broad range of sessions with speakers from across the research community and from industry.
Alongside invited talks, we would like to give attendees the opportunity to make a submission.  Besides a talk, you may also have other ideas to present your work - for example, a demo or perhaps an idea for a session that could be run on the day.   We would like to hear from individual researchers - how you have applied cloud computing technologies to help you achieve your research goals.   We also welcome input from technical specialists, representatives from cloud vendors and research infrastructure providers presenting developments and innovations to facilitate the hosting and execution of research workloads for public and private cloud.
We have provided some suggested topics and themes below, but submissions outside of these areas are also welcome.  
Research outputs from use of the cloud Is your research project using public or private cloud infrastructures now? Tell us about the research that is being enabled and supported through your use of cloud.  We're interested to hear about applications of AI on cloud, Virtual Research Environments and platforms for data analytics.
Private cloud infrastructures Running a private cloud infrastructure? Have an interesting technical challenge that you have faced (and overcome)? Do you have some benchmark data showing different ways of using your infrastructure?
Data mobility and sharing We're interested to hear about any challenges you have tackled related to sharing and moving data on cloud, interfaces for access to data e.g. use of scientific data formats and services, use of object storage, POSIX and parallel file systems. 
Workload mobility and containers What are you doing to make your workload portable between clouds? Is there anything you can share on how you do this? Are you using containers and orchestration techniques? What about resource scaling on demand? How are you running workloads both locally and using third party cloud resources?
Policy related matters Strategies and use of tools for managing costs, monitoring, accounting and procurement with public cloud.  Issues related to data governance and safe havens.

The deadline for abstract submissions is Friday 11th January.   Cloud Working Group will review the submissions and confirm the programme by 14th January.
