Undercommons
An MA Performance: Screen Presentation
Undercommons is a moving image installation bringing together fragments of archive, observation, and animation. Images gather around gestures of movement, proximity, and shared environments.
Drawing on experiences of growing up in The Gambia and later living in the UK, the work returns to and reworks moments of communal life – how space is used, shared, and held between people.
Works are shaped by a slow, attentive approach to filmmaking within anti-colonial image practices. Indeterminacy (as a method of keeping things open and provisional) is used to resist mastery and fixed resolution, staying with repetition, touch, and duration as part of how the images are made.
This becomes a way of thinking through attention, relation, and repair as sometimes embedded in process rather than represented.
