Overview

An introduction of how to use our STEP Behaviour Support programme {AG:pr}{EV:tp}

nderstanding Behaviour: The STEP Behaviour Framework from Down’s Syndrome Manchester

At Down’s Syndrome Manchester, we believe that every pupil deserves to be understood, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.

Behaviour is never just “good” or “bad” but an attempt at communication. The DSM STEP Toolkit helps schools recognise that every action is a message.

By taking each STEP – Situation, Trigger, Expression, Pathway – staff can record and understand behaviour in a clear, consistent, and compassionate way.

Our goal is to help schools:

Look beneath behaviour to find meaning.

Build positive, predictable environments.

Support every learner with Down’s syndrome to thrive
