Welcome to a brand new workshop designed specifically for professionals and trades working in and around the self build and domestic housing sector.
The aim of this free event is to share knowledge and best practice via sector insights and thought leadership – delivered by a number of key associations within the self build & renovation orbit.

Workshop Timetable:
The event programme has a strong emphasis on today's big issue: Energy & the Climate within the built environment and is made up of seminars, live demonstrations and round-table discussion.
09:00 – 10:00: Registration & networking, with coffee & pastries
10:00 – 10:15: Opening welcome by Harvey Fremlin, Managing Director, NSBRC
10:15 – 11:00: Sector update with Andrew Baddeley-Chappell, CEO, NaCSBA
An exploration of the Custom and Self Build sector post the general election using data from the latest sector research, highlighting in particular the effect of the Right to Build register, references to self build in local plans, and activity identified from the recent NaCSBA VAT survey.
11:00 – 11:45: RIBA Climate Challenge 2030
RIBA discuss key focuses including the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge initiative with Alex Whitcroft of KIN; leading into a PechaKucha style case study by Sam Goss, Barefoot Architects on the Chalk Wall House in Dorchester.

12:45 – 13:30: Structural Timber Association: building towards a sustainable future

14:50 – 15:30: A low carbon construction sector with Federation of Master Builders and The Green Register
The construction industry has the potential to make a positive contribution to reduce carbon emissions and address the climate emergency. Current regulations - if adhered to - can result in well built new build homes but existing houses are well under current standards and urgently need to be improved to reduce carbon emissions.
Phil Hodge, SW director of the FMB will introduce the Licence to Build initiative, followed by Lucy Pedler, architect and director of The Green Register, who will explain how the Futureproof initiative is training builders to improve the existing housing stock homes across the southwest.
15:30 – 16:00: An Introduction to Passivhaus Principles for Professionals with The Passivhaus Trust
Introducing Passivhaus standards, along with the principles that underlie it. How it can be used on all buildings new and refurbishments. With Alan Budden, Chartered Architect & Certified European Passivhaus Designer, Eco Design Consultants
16:00 – 16:25: Round table discussion and questions for today’s featured presenters
