This course provides an introduction to how children on the autistic spectrum experience and process the sensory world around them. Participants will explore the seven key sensory systems - visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, gustatory, vestibular and proprioceptive - and how differences in these areas can impact behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
The session will focus on recognising signs of sensory processing difficulties and offer practical, autism-informed strategies to support pupils in both primary and secondary settings. Attendees will leave with greater insight and confidence to create more inclusive, supportive learning environments for autistic children.
