Radical Films | Radical Forms – A weekend exploring the art of revolutionary Arab documentary. 

Taking place in-person from March 25-27 in Wembley Park, London.

Several films in our programme deal with the collective power of labour unions, and the potential of direct action. In this workshop, union and arms trade activists and filmmakers will share their tactics for successful actions, and discuss how cinema can be a crucial weapon in political resistance. Panellists include Marissa Begonia of The Voice of Domestic Workers and Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action. 14.45 - Doors Open 15.00 - Union &amp; Direct Action Workshop ................Bios:Marissa Begonia is a domestic worker, mother of three and founding member of The Voice of Domestic Workers an education and campaigning charity calling for justice and rights for Britain’s 16,000 overseas domestic workers. The charity began as a self-help group Justice 4 Domestic Workers (J4DW) and was based at Unite the Union in Holborn.The charity provides educational and community activities for domestic workers – including English language lessons, drama and art classes, and employment advice. It also mounts rescues for domestic workers stuck with abusive employers. Huda Ammori is an activist and writer with Palestinian and Iraqi heritage. She is the co-founder of Palestine Action, a direct action network launched in August 2020, which seeks to end British complicity with Israel's apartheid regime. Their main target and campaign is against Elbit Systems, Israel's largest arms company, with 10 bases across Britain. Elbit's weapons are marketed as "battle-tested" on Palestinians, built in Britain, and exported to the world's most oppressive regimes. In the first year of the campaign's existence, Elbit was forcibly closed down for over 3 months and reported extensively by independent, national, and international media. Recently, Elbit was forced to sell off their Oldham weapons factory, after a year and a half of sustained direct action by Palestine Action. ................This season was co-curated with Saeed Taji Farouky, a Palestinian-British filmmaker and educator who has been making films around themes of conflict, human rights, and post-colonialism since 2005. His latest documentary, A Thousand Fires, was the opening film in the Locarno Film Festival's Critics Week 2021 and won the Marco Zucchi award for Most Innovative Documentary. Farouky is also the designer and lead tutor of the radical SLG film school, a free alternative film course supporting people from backgrounds underrepresented in the industry and dedicated to developing a new generation of creative and engaged moving image artists.Other Cinemas is a project focused on the transformational power of film; whether that is showcasing the work of Black and non-white filmmakers; creating networks for Black and non-white creatives to work, learn and collaborate; or using film to document the stories of Black and non-white communities. Other Cinemas regularly hosts free film screenings in ways and spaces that serve our communities and also runs an informal film school collective of young Black and non-white filmmakers which seeks to create a real space for conversation and collaboration.
