Place North West

The role of universities in the developing landscape of cities will be the focus of this special briefing event at Manchester Metropolitan School of Art on 5 July.
A selection of senior representatives from development, investment, urban design and higher education will explore the maturing role of universities in our regional centres. The alternative uses for premises institutions vacate when moving, to untapped opportunities for student accommodation, capital funding, procurement and the latest design thinking to serve the evolving demography of paying and overseas students, will all feature on the agenda.
On the line-up will be:

<LI>Paul Hadaway, chief executive of Empiric Student Property</LI>
<LI>Ian McManus, director of estates, Manchester Metropolitan University</LI>
<LI>Diana Hampson, director of estates and facilities at the University of Manchester, overseeing a £1bn capital programme</LI>
<LI>Patrick Arends, associate at Mecanoo, the architect behind the £350m engineering campus to be built for the University of Manchester</LI>
<LI>Sue Emms, architect director at BDP, and lead on the £100m redevelopment of the former Royal Mail sorting office for Liverpool John Moores University</LI>
</UL>
Networking and refreshments will begin at 2pm for a 2.30pm start, on the fourth floor of the Benzie Building at Manchester Met School of Art. The event will close with further networking and nibbles from around 5pm.
