Unlearning Happiness: a practical 5 week course

Overview

Rethinking success, self and belonging

What if some of what we’ve been taught about happiness isn’t working?

Unlearning Happiness is a five-week course for people who feel disillusioned with the usual scripts. This could be about work, success, self-improvement or even what a “good life” is meant to look like.

Over five weekly 90-minute sessions, we’ll explore themes connected to the idea of 'unlearning happiness'. Together we’ll look at how our ideas about fulfilment are shaped, where they help, where they limit us, and what might open up if we loosen our grip on them.

Each session will include guided reflection, practical exercises, small group conversations and space to think things through properly.

Alex and Fi have spent many years exploring themselves and the world through friendship, work, study and practice. This course is a chance to share what we’ve learned with people who are also asking deeper questions.

People often leave these kinds of conversations with new perspectives, unexpected insights and practical shifts in how they relate to themselves and others.

Above all, this will be a supportive, intelligent and enjoyable space. You don’t need to have read anything, practised anything or be a certain “type” of person. Just bring your curiosity.

We’re keeping the group small (maximum 16 people) to allow for real conversation and connection.

The course starts on Friday 13th March and runs each Friday for five weeks, the final session being Friday 10th April

About us

Fi (they/them) is a facilitator and reflective coach. They hold small group sessions that offer space for reflection, conversation, and careful thinking about life, work, and change. Their work is grounded, gently structured, and focused on creating safe, thoughtful spaces rather than providing answers.

Alex is passionate about helping people to grow and change, having experienced radical change in himself. He is now sharing the joy and freedom that comes through letting go of the limits of who we think we are, and what we believe we are capable of.

About the venue

Hinterland is a Alcohol-free bar/cafe in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. Sadly the venue is not accessible. We are aware of the impact this has on excluding those with physical disabilities from attending and will be reviewing the impact of this for future events.
