Unofficial GameMaker Meetup #5
Date and time
Description
After the success of the fourth meetup, we bring you GameMaker Meetup #5
January's Unofficial Game Maker Meetup is a little different (as usual). Trying a new venue out, that is not a pub, this one is at Newspeak House! Where we will be providing the refreshments for you. And as always, we will have talks, game developers, and of course mingling.
Speakers:
Dave Strachan - Tips for randomising your games online and offline
"Dave can sense the earth's magnetic field when he sneezes and knows when the mountains are sad. He writes GameMaker guides on his website and makes web games that have been played over 200k times online. He is currently working on his first full length game."
Dave's talk will be about how to make procedural generation feel hand crafted and syncing random values online without the overhead.
Fede Fasce - At War With the Obvious
"Born in Genova in 1975 Federico has worked in and out the game industry since 1996. He sees himself as a game designer, though lately is questioning what games even mean, and he all in all doesn’t really care as long as people keep making cool stuff. He has also been an event organiser, a teacher and a mentor. He’s a strong advocate of personal games and he firmly believes that getting more people making games is the way to save the industry and push the form of expression forward. He now lives in London where he explores self caring and relationship in game spaces while working at The Guardian as a creative technologist for virtual reality experiences. He’s constantly excited about something. Even before morning coffee."
Fede's talk is about creativity. It's about finding a way to express yourself. It's about putting yourself in what you do, but more then everything it's about reaching a certain kind of awareness that eventually lead you not only to be a better creative, but also a better person. Oh, and it's about stealing in a good way. Everything in this thing is stolen from very smart people.
This is a casual GameMaker Meetup where we will discuss development in GameMaker and game development in general. Feel free to come along if you are interested in GameMaker and game development!
Please contact us if you would like to bring your game to show off, we'd love to see what you're working on! Feel free to bring down a computer and put on your game.
Please note, all donations will go towards the costs involved in running the event. Thank you.
