We are an all volunteer, patient-led charity, supported by family members and medical and scientific experts. Supporting patients living with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Fibromyalgia and Covid-induced M.E, raising awareness, providing educational resources and events for healthcare providers, and medical students, campaigning for NHS services, donating to biomedical research and fundraising to support these aims.The charity was honoured to receive The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services (with special designation) in 2020, the MBE for voluntary groups and is awarded for life.

Hope 4 ME & Fibro N.I., is an Northern Ireland charity, campaigning for NHS specialist services and providing support for patients suffering from Myalgic Encephomylitis (ME) and fibromyalgia. We are hosting a screening of the Sundance award-winning documentary, Unrest!

Our questionnaire replies from medical students, who recently viewed UNREST in QFT Belfast, reveals some startling evidence of the URGENT NEED for accurate information on ME. This documentary is ESSENTIAL VIEWING  for all healthcare providers, commissioners and elected representatives, who serve this patient population in Northern Ireland.   (NICE estimate 7000 ME patients in N.I., men, women and children, 25% of whom remain bed bound for decades)

WHAT IS M.E? 
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (sometimes called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME/CFS)  is an idiopathic, heterogeneous condition involving distortion of homeostasis across multiple organ systems. It is chiefly characterized by myalgia, fatigue, neurocognitive dysfunction, and, critically, delayed muscle recovery (Paul et al., <A CLASS="bibr popnode tag_hotlink tag_tooltip" HREF="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5314655/#B83" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">1999</A>) and the intensification of symptoms following physical exertion: “Post Exertional Malaise” (PEM), or “Post Exertional Neuroimmune Exhaustion” (PENE) (VanNess et al., <A CLASS="bibr popnode tag_hotlink tag_tooltip" HREF="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5314655/#B107" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">2010</A>).                                                        A number of countries including USA and the Republic of Ireland, have removed graded exercise therapy (GET) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as recommended ‘treatments’ for M.E. Furthermore, due to overwhelming scientific evidence and the severe controversy surrounding the £5 million UK PACE Trial, NICE and other statuary agencies are finally giving serious consideration of their entire recommended treatment and approach to this disease. 
About UNREST:
Twenty-eight year-old Jennifer Brea is working on her PhD at Harvard and months away from marrying the love of her life when she gets a mysterious fever that leaves her bedridden and looking for answers. Disbelieved by doctors yet determined to live, she turns her camera on herself and discovers a hidden world of millions confined to their homes and bedrooms by ME, commonly known as chronic fatigue syndrome. 
At its core, Unrest is a love story. Together, Jen and her new husband, Omar, must find a way to build a life and fight for a cure. Their struggle to forge their relationship while dealing with her mysterious illness is at once heartbreaking, inspiring and funny.
