What privacy tools and methods do people use, what patterns shape their preferences, and how do they perceive different technologies?
About the talk
While people often express concern about privacy online, some do engage in protective behaviour. In this talk, we present results from a series of studies investigating the methods and technologies that people employ to protect their privacy online — in the form of patterns of protective behaviour that emerge across a large sample. We then discuss their perception of different types of privacy-enhancing technologies, the barriers to adoption of the more sophisticated types, and the support people need.
