Event description
Drama for Talk and Writing - led by Primary Drama Expert, Patrice Baldwin

About this Event

Drama strategies can be used to stimulate children’s thinking and talk, in ways that help them as writers. Using the legend of ‘Beowulf’ as an example, Patrice will explain some of the ways that this can be approached.

Patrice Baldwin and Pie Corbett presented together at their ‘Drama and Talk for Writing’ UK conferences for several years. Patrice will share her ideas, resources and lesson plans and answer participants’ questions.

Participants will:

  • Learn how drama can provide contexts and reasons for writing
  • Learn how to set up drama and talk protocols
  • Learn how drama strategies can be used to scaffold thought and talk, in ways that intentionally support children as writers.
  • Be guided ‘step by step’ through a KS2 lesson, with ‘drama for talk and writing’ opportunities highlighted.

‘Patrice Baldwin is a rarity. She is one of the few primary drama experts left in this country and quite possibly the most experienced and effective drama primary teacher. Teachers on her courses, come away feeling more confident and with a broader repertoire. Her work is excellent!’ Pie Corbett

Absolutely brilliant! Patrice’s course opened doors for colleagues which they would not have believed possible. In everything she does, she walks delegates through the materials, and discusses the impact this has on children’s learning. She uses drama conventions to create opportunities for pupils to secure their learning in new and deeper ways. Mary Myatt
