The Benchmark Initiative, delivered by Geovation, supported by the Omidyar Network, is an exploration of the ethical issues raised by the proliferation of location data, and ways that public interests can be protected while supporting innovation.The Benchmark lecture series combines keynote lectures, fireside conversations and panel discussions on the ethical considerations raised by our use of location data. Our speakers are global leaders, each with a unique insight into the growth of location data and its ethical application. They will discuss topics ranging from privacy and security challenges through to the unintended consequences of geospatial innovation and what the future holds for the industry.

The Benchmark Initiative is now funding four teams to develop innovative ways of dealing with ethical and practical challenges around location data, while gaining the benefits that data can bring. The teams&#x27; objectives include: helping users understand risks to their privacy; managing differential privacy; provision of sanitation services, and more.At this event the teams will present their plans, and discuss practical questions with other entrepreneurs and users.Join us and share your own questions and experiences around developing location data applications that are both responsible and successful.
