Using Positive Behaviour Support for Sensory Differences

Occupational Therapy supports children and young people with their independence in aspects of daily living or their participation in activities at home and at school. The service provides advice on new ways for a child or young person to complete a task, or how they could use adapted equipment to help them participate or be more independent.

A workshop on using Positive Behaviour Support strategies to understand behaviour linked to sensory differences and engagement in learning.

This 60-minute online workshop, led by a Positive Behaviour Analyst from the Sensory Processing Service, provides education staff with a deeper understanding of the underlying causes of behaviour and how these can be linked to sensory differences. Participants will learn how to apply Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies, using positive reinforcement to encourage engagement in tasks and teaching alternative, more appropriate behaviours. Key Learning Points:<ul><li>Understand the link between sensory differences and behaviour in school settings</li><li>Recognise specific triggers for children with sensory processing differences</li><li>Use tools to better understand the function of behaviours and respond appropriately</li><li>Explore the principles of PBS and how to apply them</li><li>Learn how to use positive reinforcement to promote engagement and skill development</li><li>Develop supportive environments and strategies to teach alternative behaviours and coping skills</li><li>Collaborate effectively with colleagues to help students with sensory differences manage successfully in the classroom</li></ul> Session FormatDelivered online via Microsoft Teams, the workshop combines slides, spoken input, and opportunities to ask questions through the chat function. All workshops are delivered via Microsoft Teams and require an internet-enabled device. About the WorkshopThis workshop is led by Positive Behaviour Analyst from the Sensory Processing Service. This workshop is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, and early years staff who want to better understand the relationship between sensory differences and behaviour, and use PBS strategies to promote positive outcomes for students.
