Using Twine for teaching and learning

Educational Enhancement (EE) offers a specialist service focussed on enhancing teaching practices and enriching student learning. A webinar on using the software Twine in teaching focussing on adding simple student engagement analytics.

In preparation for the ‘Using Twine for teaching and learning’ webinar on Thursday 8 December please could you ensure that you have completed the following;Before the workshop starts•	Please <a href="https://twinery.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">install Twine</a> on your computer. You can use either Browser based editor or app (Mac or PC) However, the browser editor saves work in the browser cache, so clearing your data will lose all your work! Beware!•	Download the template <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TK6Ompq0pXV3w3HlcUYGknEARERn0KDX/view" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Twine story called Workshop Template</a> that we will be using during the workshop. Do not edit it yet •	Please have a look at my <a href="https://daisyabbottitchio.itch.io/creative-thinking-quest" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Creative Thinking Quest</a> for an example of an implementation in teaching and learning.This will help you to create a Choose Your Own Adventure using Twine which captures simple, anonymous analytics which you can use to understand how your learners engage with it. No prior experience with Twine or JavaScript is needed.You will leave the workshop with a template Twine story which you can customise to your own needs. However, we will not be able to look at Twine in any great detail so you will likely need to read up on it some more if you want to do anything complicated.The workshop will not be covering the pedagogical design of your learning tool in any detail, suffice to say that the main advantages of the ‘quest’ approach to learning activities can be summarised as:•	Active, exploratory learning, closely linked to a specific and situated learning outcome•	Personalisation of learning activities to support players as they progress•	Increasing motivation using discovery and an (optional) fictional narrative•	Use of gamification techniques (e.g., digital badges) to increase motivationYou will need:•	Twine – download and install it from https://twinery.org/•	A google accountThis is an online event, and a zoom link will be sent prior to the event.
