Plaza del Ayuntamiento (Plaça de l'Ajuntament, Town Hall Square) is the heart of Valencia, the political and financial nerve centre of the city, as well as the epicentre of the Las Fallas festival. Triangular in shape and very large, this is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. You will see some of Spain's most beautiful buildings, such as the Town Hall, the Post Office, a splendid fountain, hotels, cafés, restaurants, flower stands, performers, benches, palm trees and more. Housing many baroque buildings, most of them white and over 10 floors high, Plaça de l'Ajuntament is an experience all on its own, and strategically close to the Bullring, aka the Plaza de Toros de Valencia. The bullring was built in 1859 as one of Spain's largest, inspired by Roman architecture such as the Colosseum in Rome or the Arena of Nîmes in France. This bullring has a special joy, surrounded by colorful shops, street entertains and top bullfighting celebrities. Then discover one of the best and busiest pastry shops in Valencia, so much so that it has three locations within one square mile, called Dulce de Leche. Only found in Valencia, this delicious cake and pastry shop was named after the gooey yummy breakfast food popular among the locals. People have it for breakfast, most commonly on toast, but also on pancakes or waffles. It’s also the main ingredient of many cakes, pies, and typical pastries, and fills up many yummy desserts in this gorgeous shop. We will see how it is used in Spanish desserts, as well as some of the most beautiful cakes and pastries that Kelsey, who currently lives in Spain, has ever seen. Join Kelsey for pastries, the Valencian bullring and the main Town Square in Valencia!
