VCSE Training - GDPR and Data Security

A free training session for voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations operating in York (United Kingdom).

<h3><strong>About the workshop: </strong></h3><p>The workshop will be delivered by <a href="https://communitymatters.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Community Matters</a> and will look at the steps a small VCSE sector organisation should take when handling any personal data. The workshop is particularly useful if your organisation is in the process of  reviewing or creating policies and procedures. </p><p><strong>This training will be delivered online via Zoom. Joining details will be emailed to you before the event. </strong></p><h3><strong>Training content:</strong></h3><p>The session aims to cover the following topics:</p><ul><li>GDPR post Brexit </li><li>Data Controller vs Processor</li><li>Reviewing the personal data you hold</li><li>Data Retention and Disposal</li><li>Data Security</li><li>Transparency</li><li>Subject Access Requests (SAR)</li><li>Data Breaches</li></ul><h3><strong>The speaker:</strong></h3><p>Geoff Banks works at  Community Matters supporting community building operators in all areas.  He has a background in safety and risk assessment.  He&#x27;s had a varied career with previous roles around complaint handling, space allocation, funding and any other challenges related to running small organisations.  </p><p><strong>To make the training as relevant as possible, we are asking those attending to send Jane Granville (contact details below) data questions they would like answering.  We will attempt to cover as many of these as we can at the training. </strong></p><p><strong>Additional areas covered include:  </strong></p><ul><li>Retention periods: these vary drastically, they will cover a few and there will be a link that points people to a useful resource around that.</li><li>Lawful reasons for collecting personal data: there are several categories for this and again whilst they will cover a few in the workshop, people will need to go through their data and form their own reasons (or decide they shouldn&#x27;t actually be collecting the personal data because can&#x27;t find a lawful reason to have it).</li><li>Some of the mystique has gone around GDPR but there are much clearer and easier to follow guidelines that they&#x27;ll also give links to.
