Venepuncture Training - Half Day Training

Demonstrate understanding of venous blood collection sampling principles using aseptic technique and evidence based practice.

This course is designed for all participants involved in venous blood collection.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

• Engage in a holistic patient assessment to support venepuncture.
• Identify suitable veins for venepuncture using accurate anatomical assessment.
• Select and safely use the recommended equipment for blood collection in line with CLCH policy and manufacturer guidance.

• Locate and utilise relevant organisational policies, procedures, and protocols relating to safe blood collection.
• Explain the risks associated with venepuncture and describe appropriate management and mitigation strategies.
• Practice venous blood collection on a simulated arm in a clinical skills lab, taking environmental sustainability into account.

• Recognise red flags and escalate promptly and efficiently.
