About this Event

I would like to invite you to the 2020 Victims Summit on the 27th of February 2020 from 9.30am to 3.30pm at Aston Villa FC, Villa Park, Birmingham B6 6HE.

The Summit will bring together services I have commissioned regionally and locally as a result of recommendations made by the Victims Commission. The Commission has played an integral role assisting me to shape delivery for victims of crime across the region and over the past 5 years I have commissioned some truly new and innovative projects to support victims in ways which are meaningful to them.

As we move into the next decade we must keep a pace of the new and emerging types of crimes and victimisations which are affecting our city and our country. Recent research and crime data demonstrates that there has been a significant rise in the rate of crimes that utilise information technology systems over the last two decades. Many forms of victimisation, including bullying and property crime, are increasingly moving online and rapidly changing. Technology is playing a much greater role in the act of stalking and emerging crimes such as ‘upskirting’ and ‘revenge porn’. Victimisation and victimhood is moving into a digital era and if we are to truly meet the needs of these victims we must move with it.

The changing nature of crime is discussed throughout the governments Victims’ Strategy 2018. The strategy highlights spikes in certain types of crimes in particular high harm violent crime and technology facilitated crime bringing with them new pressures in the type of support required by victims.

As I come to the end of my term in office I encourage you all to attend my final Victims Summit, share your experiences and learn from the experiences of others. We have a fantastic line up of speakers including Jess Phillips MP, Vera Baird National Victims Commissioner, Nicole Jacobs the newly appointed Domestic Abuse Commissioner and of course from victims themselves. This is a not to be missed opportunity.

During the Summit, we will be seeking your views on; challenges of addressing and supporting victims affected by technologically-facilitated abuse, how to better support victims and survivors of crime facilitated through technological advancements and best practices from the support you offer individuals.

To register your attendance at the Summit, please click on the link. If you have any support needs or dietary requirements please contact one of my team on 0121 626 6060 or by emailing t.muchemenyi@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk or h.chakira@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk.

Yours faithfully

David Jamieson Police and Crime Commissioner
