Virtual Midnight Walk 2020

St Elizabeth Hospice aims to improve life for people living with progressive and terminal illnesses.Our work is centred on the individual's needs and we provide specialist support wherever it is needed; whether that is in your home, in the community or at our hospice. We offer expert care and support to help patients, and their families, maximise the potential from the time they have left.We make no charges for our services and although we get some NHS support, the majority of our income comes through public support, either directly through fundraising, donations and volunteers, or through profits made by our retail teams.

Join our virtual Midnight Walk from the 19th - 26th of September and help us to raise vital funds for St Elizabeth Hospice

It is with a very heavy heart that we have decided to cancel this year’s face to face Midnight Walk event in order to keep everyone involved as safe as possible. Good news is that you are still able to support the hospice by taking part in our very first virtual Midnight Walk! This means that you can still do the walk but it would be at a time of your choice in the week commencing 19th September. We advise that you do not walk at night as you will not have any of the support you would normally have at the event. So.. how will the virtual event work?Before you begin your challenge, there will be a series of videos that you can watch. It will include everything that you would normally see at the event. We will have even put together a special Midnight Walk Spotify playlist together that will help you power through the steps.You can complete the virtual walk during the week commencing 19th September or do the mileage all at once. You are welcome to complete the original distances of 10km or a half marathon or you are welcome to pick how far you walk. This should be achieved in line with the Government’s latest guidelines around social distancing rules.If you don’t have a way of electronically tracking your steps through a smart watch or mobile phone, don’t let that put you off – we are happy for you to guesstimate how far you've walked! There is no minimum age limit for the virtual event so don't hesitate to get the whole family involved. You will receive our brand new designed T-shirt before the 19th September (if you signed up by the 14th of July), so that you can wear it while you are taking part and you will receive a well-deserved medal after the event. We are hopeful that we can give you your medal in person so we can thank you personally for taking on the challenge despite the changes of the event, however if that is not possible at the time we shall make sure you receive your bling in the post!We’d love to see your selfies and screenshots of step counts during the week, so keep us updated on social media by posting regular updates - use #MyMidnightWalkMake sure your friends, colleagues and neighbours know to sponsor you via your JustGiving page. As an extra addition to the changes, anyone that raises £250 for the hospice by doing the event will be invited to the Midnight Walk after party that will take place as soon as the social distancing ban has been lifted. Details of this will be sent out about this once we are more aware of the situation. The miles can be spread out across the whole week or done all in one go. This should be achieved in line with the Government’s latest guidelines around social distancing rules.How do I track my walk? We recommend taking a smart phone or watch out on your walk and tracking your steps through a route mapping app. We urge you to follow social distancing and government advise whilst undertaking your walk.What do I do once I've completed the walk? Let us know once you have completed your walk and we will arrange for your medal to be sent out to you. Make sure you share your photos of the walk using the hashtag #MyMidnightWalk on social media.When do I get my T-shirt?To receive a t-shirt you must sign up before 23:59 on the 14 July 2020. Your t-shirts will be posted out to you at the beginning of September. Unfortunately we are unable to change the T-shirt size you requested when you sign up as all are made to order.Do I have to raise a certain amount of money?We ask each participant to raise as much sponsorship as possible. Gift Aid cannot be claimed without these.Can I collect sponsorship from people online?You can create your own Just Giving page with details of what you are doing, when and why. You can email links to your friends, family and colleagues anywhere in the world and they can donate online by debit or credit card. St Elizabeth Hospice automatically receives any donations made via your page. Can I Gift Aid my donation?You can ask each person that sponsors you to Gift Aid their donation by ticking the Gift Aid box on your sponsor form, if they are a UK taxpayer or pay Capital Gains Tax.  For every £1 they donate, we receive an extra 25p.What else can I do to raise money?Many employers will match fund the amounts their employees fundraise. Why not speak with your employer and ask them if they will do this. It is quick and simple and won’t cost you a thing. Usually all they require is a letter from us confirming what you have raised and we will happily provide you with this.How do I hand in my sponsor money?Please send cheques to: Midnight Walk Team, St Elizabeth Hospice, 565 Foxhall Road, Ipswich, IP3 8LX.  Alternatively, you can bring the money to the Ipswich Hospice.If you have set up a St Elizabeth Hospice Giving page, we automatically receive all donations made through the website, so you don't need to do anything!What do I need to wear? We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  Your registration fee includes a T-shirt and we are encouraging all participants to dress up in neon like you would have done at the real event.How old do I need to be?Now that the event is virtual there is no minimum age, however any walker under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult (18+) and must include details of their accompanying adult on their registration form.Is there any other way I can support the event/Hospice?If you are taking part, please spread the word amongst your colleagues, family, friends and neighbours. If you are taking on your challenge in memory of someone special , why not set up a tribute fund and grow your memory fund through your fundraising . The tribute fund has an area where you can enter your event and share through social media. It has a totaliser so you can see how well you are doing.
