Evening vocal workshop with Dan Rhys Wakefield, featuring an artist talk at the gallery, then a walk to the Thames for group vocal exercises
VOCAL WORKSHOP
We invite you to an evening vocal workshop led by Daniel Rhys Wakefield on July 9th at 6:30 PM. The workshop will include an artist talk in Hypha Studios South Bank, Gallery 2, then a walk up to the riverfront at Bankside pier, where visitors will engage in group vocal exercises.
Dan Rhys Wakefield is an artist and architectural designer based in London. His practice is concerned with sites and systems of technological and infrastructural transformation, with an interest in the ways these systems mediate bodily relations across scales of distance and duration. Working between visual art, performance and spatial practice, he uses the voice and language as collective tools to inhabit a space between history, reality and possibility.
ALL CAPITALS takes Southwark as its starting point. Continuously rebuilt over centuries, this part of London holds layers of histories: outsider burial grounds, industrial sites, offices, and cultural venues.
Inspired by Clarice, a city in Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities that repeatedly collapses and rebuilds itself, the exhibition considers how places change. Here, traces of the past coexist with imagined futures. Different times overlap, shaping both the city and the people who live in it.
Bringing together fourteen London-based artists of different backgrounds, generations, and disciplines, ALL CAPITALS explores what it means to live amongst these layers of history. Working across sculpture, installation, sound, video, and performance, the artists explore transformation, instability, queerness, memory, and renewal.
The gallery becomes a place to rehearse, inhabit, and return to. Many works were made for the space and will change over the course of the exhibition.
A public programme of workshops, performances, and walks extend the project into the city, moving through queer craft, sound, and Southwark's overlooked histories.
