Walk with Shrines

Billie (Elspeth) Penfold is an artists who uses walking as a research tool USING poetry and wider readings to connect with with sites and events. Participants who collaborate in the walks are encouraged to record their experience through a menemonic system of knots in ropes.

<H2>Walking with Shrines</H2>
Part of  The Margate  Festival with The Autumn Bookie at The Turner Contemporary 
<H3>Saturday September 29th </H3>
This walk is free but ticketed as there will be a limit on numbers.
 
<H4>10.30 am  You can drop in to the Foyle room at the Turner Contemporary to view "Ofrendas"  a short film made in collaboration with the fim maker Anna Bowman. The film will run on a loop until 11.15 am</H4>
The film is a brief introduction to the artists , the authors and the process of developing walking with Shrines
<H3>11.30 Join us for a pilgrimage, walking, assembling shrines that express our enjoyment of the books by four authors at The Autumn Bookie  who agreed to engage in this celebration of Margate, their books and the  connections made with readers. </H3>
The walk will last for an hour and a half and is mostly on flat terrain.  We can also provide details of locations on the day  should you wish to join us for part of the walk.
 
 
Join artist Elspeth (Billie ) Penfold and the artists group Thread and Word for a creative walk. Drawing inspiration from Dee Heddon’s walking libraries and the book Home Altars of New Mexico the artists group Thread and Word is offering a walk which will take you on a journey through poetry, walking books and the passion and following these engender. At selected spots in Margate books will be introduced and then a small shrine will be built and marked with offferings by participating artists . These shrines will be temporary and will be assembled , photographed and taken down as part of the walk.
