Walking Tour
A two-hour, gently paced, flat walking tour of the City of Newport
The tour explores the industrial, social and cultural history of the city with a keen focus on literature, words and language. Focusing on the language of Chartism and the Chartist Uprising, local place names and their meanings, literary works including internationally renowned poet WH Davies, and the role words played in the development of the city and its culture.
Please meet in the ground floor foyer of Central Library/Newport Museum and Art Gallery NP20 1PA circa 10mins before the start time. As this is a walking tour then we advise you to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately depending on weather.
This is a partnership event with Past Port Tours and is part of the Newport Festival of Words (20th - 22nd March 2026). It is free of charge with support through a SPF grant, funded by UK Government. Places are limited so if you are unable to attend then please let us know.
