Walking with the Romans

Working with local people in Northumberland's Rede Valley, the Revitalising Redesdale Landscape Partnership successfully secured an award of £1.8 million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, to celebrate Redesdale’s rich cultural heritage and to protect and enhance the area’s landscape and wildlife.The programme runs from 2018 to 30 September 2022 and is delivering 12 projects ranging from natural and built heritage conservation and enhancement projects to community archaeology, events and activities to engage people with the fantastic and often overlooked heritage and landscapes of Redesdale.

Join us for a short guided walk from Rochester to Bremenium Roman fort and the Petty Knowes Roman Cemetery to learn about this Roman outpost and the recent archaeological excavations which have been undertaken by community volunteers as part of the Revitalising Redesdale Lost Redesdale project. Walk length approx 1.5 miles on rough fields and tracks.Meet at the &#x27;Roundhouse&#x27; Rochester next to the &#x27;Rochester Relish&#x27; Last Cafe in England but please do not park in the cafe car park. Parking is available outside the village hall opposite.No need to print your ticket.Please come prepared for rain, sun &amp; wind &amp; wear stout footwear or walking boots. A reasonable level of fitness required as there are uphill stretches.Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be on a lead.
