Wandering the Wandle River - Geological Undergrowth

Meet us at 3.45 pm in Wandsworth Park by Putt in th Park.

This short detouring walk explores together the unique geology, ecosystem and environment of the Wandle Valley. This geological walk follows a short part of Segment 10 to walk a section of the Wandle River, from near the Thames tracking its flow through King Georges Park. At the end of this walk there is an option for the adventurous to keep re-walking the Trail on towards the ponds and wetlands of Herne Hill.

This walk will be animated by interventions by InspiralLondon associate artists Rachel Gomme, and Gail Dickerson. Including a geological exploration of the Wandle River as it reaches the Thames at Wandsworth (Inspired by Gail's researches). Alongside the opportunity to examine and celebrate a variety of street trees with Rachel. A chance to pay attention to these often overlooked companions in our streets, considering how they are living, their importance to the life of the city and how we can support and champion them.

Organized by

InspiralLondon CIC is a non-profit project - a collective of walking artists, project associates (urban planning, geography, ecology, architecture) and urban explorers - working together to create then nourish a 300 mile spiralling walking trail through the whole of London. Conceived as an artist-led walking project to create an urban/semi-urban walking trail through Metropole of London, under the umbrella of MT (Metropolitan Trails 2013). The route follows both existing footpaths and passageways, while creating new ways in which to explore and find a way through the city. The trail is an invitation for all to explore, rediscover and reconnect with their city; to begin to rethink the urban, the metropolitan and its relation to other and to inhabiting place.
