Please make every effort to inform us in advance of the event if you are unable to attend or you can cancel your place directly on Eventbrite.The Warwick Q-Step Centre is delighted to host this Masterclass on Panel Data Analysis, delivered by <a href="https://ruettenauer.github.io/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Tobias Ruettenauer</a> – Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow in Sociology at Nuffield College, Oxford. This Masterclass is aimed primarily at postgraduate students on our three Quantitative Social Science degrees. Final year Q-Step undergraduate students, interested in learning enhancement opportunities, are also invited to attend. Depending on numbers we may be able to open the event up to PG students in other relevant subject areas throughout the University.<h2>Content</h2>In panel data, we observe the same unit (person, region, or country) repeatedly over time. This allows applying statistical methods which identify relations based on the within-unit changes rather than the differences between units. It thus allows us to account for some statistical problems of non-experimental studies and increases the confidence in a causal interpretation of the results.
 
This course provides a hands on introduction to the preparation of panel data and the application of panel data methods. The course focuses on the most common methods like Difference in Differences, Random Effects, and Fixed Effects. We will also briefly discuss some extensions like novel Diff-in-Diff estimators and Fixed Effects Individual Slopes. The empirical part will be based on R and RMarkdown.
PLEASE NOTE: This event is for Warwick University students only.
