Thoughts on the elements - water - for our water blessing 21st March
The waters in our body are not simply sloshing around inside us; they move with intelligence and purpose, carrying life through every part of us. We can begin by noticing the saliva in our mouth, the gentle waters of digestion. We might imagine the tears in our eyes, which protect and cleanse, expressing emotion and connection.
From here we can journey deeper within, to the interstitial fluid that bathes every cell, quietly nourishing and supporting the microscopic communities that make up our living body. Even deeper still flows our blood, the great river of the body, carrying oxygen, nutrients, and warmth through an intricate network of vessels.
There are other waters within us too: the lymph that moves softly through its own pathways, helping the body cleanse and defend itself; the synovial fluid that lubricates our joints, allowing us to move with ease; and the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and cushions the brain and spinal cord, protecting the delicate centre of our nervous system.
Before all of this, before breath and speech and movement, we began in water. In the womb we were held in amniotic fluid, floating and growing in a quiet inner ocean. Our earliest environment was entirely aquatic, reminding us that life itself emerges from water.
In this way, our bodies mirror the Earth. The rivers of blood echo the rivers that cross the land. The tides of fluid in our tissues reflect the rhythms of the oceans. The moisture of our breath returns to the air as vapour, joining the atmosphere that forms clouds and rain.
We come from water, and throughout our lives we are sustained by it. In time, the waters that move through us return again to the greater cycles of the Earth — through breath, through the soil, through the endless circulation of the planet’s living waters. Remembering this connection reminds us that the water within us and the water of the world are never truly separate; they are part of one continuous and sacred flow.
As we remember the waters within us, we also turn our attention to the waters that flow through the land around us. Rivers, springs, rain, and sea are part of the same living cycle that moves quietly through our own bodies. When we honour the waters of the Earth, we honour the waters within ourselves.
Saturday March 21st – Lavant – 1:30pm
We will begin with a gentle time of sharing, reflecting together on our relationship with water and the living cycles - a time for songs, sounding, stories. We can honour the water and how it sustains us, practice some simple Jin Shin holds and relax with the gong.
Weather Permitting - bring a waterproof blanket to sit on, a chair, a blanket.
