Overview

Join RNLI for this interactive session on throw bag training.

The RNLI Waterside Responder scheme provides specialist training to hospitality staff, security staff, and waterside community members to help prevent drowning around rivers and waterways across the UK and Ireland.

During this session, the RNLI will train you to:

  • Use a throw bag to help rescue somebody in the water
  • Provide safety advice to people using waterside areas
  • Understand the risks of the waterside near your venue

Course Information

  • Training takes up to an hour (including 20 minutes discussing scheme background and theory, and 20 minutes practising outside)
  • Please wear appropiate footwear and be aware that there is the potential for clothes to get dirty when practising throwing the line
  • A throwline will be provided for you to keep. If you are considering buying a throwline, be conscious of using generic online stores and contact RNLI for guidance
  • Be aware that members of the public may be around when practising throwing the line

GDPR

RNLI will record names of all participants. This is to track the WSR scheme and will not be used for any other purpose such as fundraising. This information may be shared with partner organisations (including Fire & Rescue) for the purpose of supporting you as a WSR.

Statement

This scheme is more about 'awareness' than formal training with certification.

WSR participation cannot be used for mitigation against insurance clauses and/or if there is a legal or regulatory compliance requirement. If this is required, please contact the Royal Life Saving Society at https://www.rlss.org.uk/
