A panel event keeping International Women's Day and World Book Day alive beyond the month of March.
The panel will bring together a group of inspiring female authors and guests to discuss: 'how writers and non-writers alike can utilise fiction as a path to positive mental health and expression.'
Can we encourage more women to use writing and reading in their every day to help with everything from overthinking to the suppression of feelings and creative idea generation?
This event is open to writers and non-writers alike, females and males, in fact anyone wanting to learn more about the cathartic nature of writing, journaling and reading for creativity, joy and positive mental health.
All tickets include a drink (wine, beer or soft)
We will be joined by a panel of published female authors and Chair, Tori Attwood currently writing her first novel.
● Emily Morris is a Manchester-based author and freelance journalist. Her first book, My Shitty Twenties, a memoir of single parenthood, has been optioned for TV. Emily is a 2019 Writer-in-Residence at Gladstone's Library and is currently working on a novel about the hen do from hell.
● Sarah Tierney - Sarah's debut novel Making Space (Sandstone Press) is set in Manchester and tells the story of a girl who gets a job helping a hoarder clear out his paper-packed home. Sarah is a graduate of Manchester University's MA in Novel Writing and she works as a copywriter at Manchester Confidential. She's currently writing her second novel.
● Holly Ringland - Holly grew up barefoot and wild in her mother's tropical garden on the east coast of Australia. In her early twenties she worked for four years in a remote Indigenous community in the central Australian desert. In 2009, Holly moved to the UK and obtained her MA in Creative Writing from the University of Manchester in 2011. Published in 2018, Holly’s internationally bestselling debut novel, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, has sold in 28 territories around the world. Screen rights for a forthcoming TV series were recently acquired by Made Up Stories, the production team behind Big Little Lies. Holly now lives between the UK and Australia and is working on her second novel. To any question ever asked of Holly about growing up, writing has always been the answer.
● Shirley Mann - A journalist who has worked across newspapers, magazines,BBC radio and television, Shirley Mann has a two book deal with Bonnier Zaffre Publishers and specialises in Second World War novels. The first was inspired by her parents who were a WAAF in Bomber Command and an Eighth Army soldier and will be published in Jan 2020, The second is about an Air Transport Auxiliary pilot and will be published the year after.
● Sarah Parkinson is a graduate of Creative Advertising at the University of Central Lancashire, artist and children's author. Her debut novel, ‘The Shoe Foxes,’ an Amazon bestseller was inspired by seeing the world through the eyes of her young daughter, as well as her passion for creativity and empowering children with literature and art. Sarah works in schools and libraries with the aim on inspiring children to read, write and draw. She lives in Wrexham, North Wales with her husband Chris and daughter Megan.
Chair: Tori Attwood is a freelance writer and storyteller based in Manchester. She is currently working on her debut novel, which is a comedy about a girl who is failing university.
