Given the nature of U.K. schooling for parents, pupils and teachers during the coronavirus pandemic, I am offering online professional development for teachers to help share my knowledge of teaching and learning research - on a shoestring budget to bring in a small residue income at a difficult time for us all - to help connect the online, teaching community.

What will you learn? This 30-minute webinar/training session (plus 10 minutes question and answer) aims to help other teachers learn more about memory and retention at an introductory level, sharing what memory is, how durable memory is and what teachers can do in the classroom to help pupils recall information.

Why? After 27 years of teaching, I wish I was taught more about short term and working memory, as well as cognitive load theory and what this looks like in the classroom. If I had learnt what I now know today, I would've been a much better teacher. In the session, I want to give all teachers an introductory insight into the key concepts of what memory is and how you can use these ideas back in your own classroom setting.

How? This webinar offers introductory theory at a beginner level, explaining research worth knowing, what it looks like in the classroom and how you can use these ideas for your own professional development.

Who? This training is perfect for experienced teachers and school leaders who wish to explore cognitive science and discover how to instil better teaching and learning methods back into their classrooms at a pupil level.

Led by:

Ross Morrison McGill is also known as @TeacherToolkit, is the ‘most followed educator on social media in the UK’. He works with pupils, teachers and school leaders across the world, supporting teaching and learning, workload and mental health.

A former deputy headteacher, he has been teaching for 27 years working in some of the most challenging secondary schools in London. In 2015, he was nominated as one of the ‘500 Most Influential People in Britain’ by The Sunday Times. He is currently writing his fifth book and is studying for his EdD at Cambridge University.

What do I need for the event?

You will need a desktop or laptop with a reliable internet connection. You do not need to download any software. If you miss the live session for whatever reason, the resources and video will still be shared with you.

How does the webinar work?

During the training, the host will share their screen, video and audio in a webinar so that attendees can use the chat or question and answer options to interact with the host and other panellists.

Attendees are view-only participants who can be unmuted if the host chooses. Their view of the webinar is controlled by the host. They can interact with the host and the panellists through the Q&A and the chat.

Can I access the resources and video?

The host reserves the rights to hold the recording and audio footage. This will be circulated to all paid clients after the event. Note, you do not need to be a live participant to access the video and resources.

What is the refund policy?

We can refund the full ticket price if you notify us 24 hours before the start time of the event. We cannot issue any other refunds less than 24h hours as planning and resources will have already been created and distributed.
