About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Develop your skills in the Slow Foxtrot in this one-off Saturday afternoon intensive. Aimed at those who have covered the basics, this class will expand your repertoire of steps and develop technique and confidence in a sociable environment.

Who is it for?

This course is aimed at students with at least one year's worth of experience of ballroom and Latin dance basic steps. Ideally you will already be familiar with the basic amalgamation of the Slow Foxtrot (feather step, turns, three step etc) and be interested in developing your style and putting combinations together for social dancing. If you haven't tried the Slow Foxtrot but have substantial experience in Waltz and Quickstep then you will have transferable skills but this session is not suitable for absolute beginners. This will be covering the technical Slow Foxtrot and not the Social / Rhythm Foxtrot which is taught to beginners.

What does it cover?

The course will focus on Slow Foxtrot steps and combinations danced to strict tempo music with a look at timing, hold and technique. The emphasis will be on building confidence for social dancing and developing existing skills.

What will it be like?

The tutor will demonstrate basic steps and then of offer helpful feedback on how to improve the execution of the steps whilst you practise.

Partner rotation is encouraged in order to develop leader and follower skills. You do not have to attend with a partner and solo dancers are very welcome but please note we cannot guarantee an even number of leaders and followers. The emphasis will be on social dancing more than syllabus work and your tutor will advise you on styling and timing.

What else do I need to buy or do?

Comfortable clothing and footwear (ballroom, jazz or other soft dance shoes are ideal, or alternatively trainers / plimsolls) are recommended to allow for free movement.

What could it lead to?

You may wish to join the weekly improver ballroom class, or dance socially at local events. Your tutor will advise you of upcoming options.
