Weeping Cross Open Evening - 2026
Tour of Weeping Cross Depot
Shrewsbury Town Council is delighted to invite residents to a special Weeping Cross Open Day, offering a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover how Shrewsbury’s stunning floral displays are brought to life.
Join us at our Weeping Cross greenhouse nursery, where around 330,000 plants are grown each year from plugs, seeds, and cuttings. During the early months of the year, our dedicated team carefully nurtures each plant so they are in full bloom by May—ready to be planted in some of the town’s most iconic locations, including The Dingle, the spectacular carpet bedding at Shrewsbury Castle, and a wide range of floral displays across Shrewsbury.
Visitors will have the chance to learn about the growing process, see the greenhouses in action, and speak with the skilled staff who help keep Shrewsbury looking beautiful year after year.
The evening will also include guided tours of our workshops, where you can get up close to some of the specialist equipment used to maintain our parks, green spaces, and countryside sites. From grass cutting machinery to hedge maintenance tools, discover the work that goes on behind the scenes to care for the town’s outdoor spaces.
Whether you’re passionate about gardening, interested in local services, or simply curious about how Shrewsbury’s award-winning displays are created, we look forward to welcoming you for an informative and inspiring evening.
