About this event

  • 2 hours

A visit highlighting the long struggle by West Kensington residents to protect their homes from demolition.

We’ll kick off with a walk introducing you to the area, on the edge of Zone 1. You’ll hear how the developer, CapCo, tried and failed to regenerate this diverse neighbourhood, centred on the old Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre, for high-end housing. You’ll discover what’s happening now with a new player, the Earl’s Court Development Company, taking a more imaginative approach.

Then we’ll meet two residents of the West Kensington and Gibbs Green council estates. They’ll show us their neighbourhood. Then we’ll sit down to listen to their inspiring story of how they led a bruising campaign by residents against CapCo’s efforts to bulldoze their homes. There’ll be plenty of time for your questions.
